Who we are

Lorrendraaier is a specialist in yacht registration, based in the Netherlands. We advise and support maritime professionals and private yacht owners with the registration, withdrawal, and commercial registration of pleasure crafts and working boats. The owner and data controller is Boudewijn Meijer.

When you contact us or engage our services, we may collect and process personal data. This privacy statement explains how we handle that data.

What data we collect

We collect only the data that is necessary for the service you have requested. The type of data depends on the nature of your enquiry or registration.

Data we may collect includes Your name and contact details (e-mail address, telephone number, postal address), vessel details (name, type, dimensions, registration number, HIN/CIN number), nationality and passport or identification details where required by a flag state, company details where a vessel is registered under a business entity, and any additional documentation requested by the relevant shipping authority.

We do not collect data that is not necessary for your registration or enquiry. We do not collect financial data such as bank account or credit card numbers, unless a payment is processed directly through our systems, which is rare.

Why we collect your data

We use your personal data solely for the purpose you have provided it for. This includes providing you with advice on flag state options, processing your yacht registration with the relevant shipping authority, communicating with you about the progress of your registration, complying with legal and regulatory obligations, and responding to your enquiries.

We do not use your data for marketing purposes unless you have given explicit consent. We do not sell, rent, or share your data commercially with any third party.

How we protect your data

We take the security of your data seriously. All personal data is stored in a secure, access-controlled environment. Our data handling procedures are reviewed and audited annually as part of our ISO 9001 certification.

Secure storage All data is stored in a secure digital environment with appropriate access controls. Physical documents are kept in a locked, fire-resistant storage facility.
Access control Access to your data is limited to the person or persons directly involved in your registration. We do not share data internally beyond what is necessary.
No commercial use Your data is never used for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond the service you have requested. We do not share it with data brokers or marketing platforms.
Annual audit Our data handling processes are reviewed annually as part of our ISO 9001 certification. This ensures our procedures remain current and compliant.

Sharing data with third parties

We do not share your personal data with third parties, with the following exceptions:

When required by a shipping authority as part of the registration process. In this case, we provide only the data that is necessary for the registration. When required by law, for example in response to a legally valid request from a government authority. When you have given explicit written consent for us to share specific information, for example with a maritime lawyer or tax adviser working on your behalf.

In all cases, we share only the minimum data necessary.

Privacy and public ship registers

Some ship registers are publicly accessible. This means that once a vessel is registered, certain ownership information may be visible to third parties. The extent of publicly available information varies between flag states.

We advise on the privacy implications of each flag state as part of the registration process. If privacy is a particular concern for you, do let us know during the initial consultation, and we will take this into account when advising on suitable flag states.

How long we keep your data

We retain your personal data for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. For completed registrations, we typically retain records for a period consistent with statutory retention requirements and the duration of the vessel’s registration. Once data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have several rights regarding your personal data. You have the right to request access to the data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data, to request deletion of your data where it is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected, to request restriction of processing in certain circumstances, to object to the processing of your data in certain circumstances, and to request a portable copy of your data.
