Collection
Here at Lorrendraaier, we hold a rather modest, yet wonderfully charming, collection of historical objects connected – sometimes directly, sometimes a little more loosely – to the registration of vessels. As pleasure crafts, in the way we enjoy them today, are a relatively modern phenomenon, you will find that most of our pieces relate to the registration of ships in a broader sense.
Among the collection, you will spot the occasional ship model. These are often quite naïve in their composition and could easily be considered a delightful form of maritime folk art. Alongside these quirky models, we have gathered various historical documents, beautifully aged manuscripts, and the fascinating vessels that held them, such as traditional captain’s tins. We have put together a series of articles exploring these objects, perfect for a bit of relaxed reading. We certainly do not take ourselves too seriously here, as we are no historians, and we hope you will enjoy discovering a bit of maritime history with us!
